Molasses Cookies

The Story Behind It

Given to her by her mother-in-law and a Luczak clan favorite recipe)

Ingredients

¾ cup shortening
1 cup brown sugar
1 egg
¼ cup dark molasses
2 ¼ cups flour
2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp ginger
½ tsp cloves or ½ tsp of pumpkin spices
¼ tsp salt

Another version (For softer cookies):
¾ shortening
1 cup sugar
¼ cup dark molasses
1 egg
2 tsp baking soda
2 cups flour
½ tsp cloves or pumpkin spice
½ tsp ginger
1 tsp cinnamon
½ tsp salt

Directions

Chill for an hour and dip round balls of cookie dough into sugar before baking at 375 for 10-12 minutes (slightly harder cookies, which can be microwaved for 15-20 seconds to soften them up if they sit out in the air too long)

Another version (For softer cookies):
