A family memory

The Story Behind It

I received this recipe from a friend who brought the salad to a lunch we had after one of our air-rifle shoots.

1

Ingredients

1 (1 lb) package cabbage slaw mix
1 bunch green onions, diced
1 can water chestnuts, drained
2 packages chicken-flavored ramen noodle soup
½ cup sugar
¼ cup hot and spicy vegetable oil
⅓ cup apple-cider vinegar or rice vinegar
1 cup sunflower nuts
1 cup cashews or slivered almonds

2

Directions

Break the uncooked ramen noodles into small pieces.
Combine the cabbage slaw mix, green onions, water chestnuts and broken ramen noodles.
In a separate bowl, combine the sugar, oil, vinegar and dry seasoning packets from the ramen packages.
Pour the dressing over the cabbage mixture approximately 2 hours before serving.
Add the sunflower nuts and cashews or slivered almonds just before serving.
